"The extraordinary loving magic of Chicago’s DIY culture has produced another masterpiece of emotional clarity and songcraft. I’ve been awed watching Jessica shape these songs into perfect concise visions in basement show after coffeeshop show. It’s exciting for everyone else to finally get to see into her introspective world." - Rob Sevier, CoFounder of Numero Group
Since August 2020, Beach Boys Club has expanded from a small cabal of enthusiasts to an expansive global network of Beach Boys fans, admirers, and experts. The core mission—listen to all 27 of the Beach Boys studio albums, plus scattered bootlegs and solo projects—has yet to be finished, but the second volume of the Beach Boys Club Compilation Series is a singular accomplishment.
“Beach Boys Club Vol. 2: Aren't You Glad (Covers from the Smile to Holland era)” features 34 spirited renditions of songs from the Beach Boys’ post-Pet Sounds output – from Smiley Smile (1967) to Holland (1973). We were originally planning on titling this volume “Feel Flows,” until the Beach Boys themselves decided it was time to revisit this hallowed era of their discography with a box set of the same name.
All proceeds from this release will go to Elm Street Produce, a community-funded, Lodi-based collective providing food security and education to people in the San Joaquin Valley.
A remix of "Blue Black Grey White" from Emily Jane Power's new single.
All proceeds go to NAMI Chicago.
*All proceeds from this compilation album support NAMI Chicago and NorCal Resist*
“Beach Boys Club Vol. 1: Don’t Worry, Baby – Covers From the Pre-Pet Sounds Era” features 41 renditions from the Beach Boys’ output through “Beach Boys Party,” lovingly crafted by musicians across Chicago, Sacramento, and beyond.
From the spoken-word mini-memoir “Be True With Your School (A Reminiscence),” to the wordless vocal, synth and drum machine groove of “Barbara Ann,” to the guitar instrumental reinterpretation of “Girl Don’t Tell Me” (one of four versions!), it’s safe to say that this compilation pays reverence to the Boys’ golden songbook while completely deconstructing it.
So, please, enjoy listening to one, some, or all of our Beach Boy covers—we hope you enjoy listening to them, and that you’ll feel some of our collective love for California Music!
"Distinctly within the tone and timbre of previous releases ‘The Waves’ represents a nuanced departure from the familiar progressions of I See You Among The Stars. The melody climbs and cascades. Risker’s vocal work is pensive. Phrasing on electric keys makes light across the darker surfaces, so there are challenges too..." -Pop Bollocks
"Deadbeat’s BIG FOREVER is an ever-shifting, continuous seventeen-minute piece of music arranged by Chicago musician Jessica Risker, divided into seven tracks, with guest musicians and samples throughout...It’s pretty hype. This whole album is dope...You’ll hear something new every time. There’s a lot packed into this one. Risker has really constructed a mindbender. Wait until nightfall and listen alone loudly for maximum experience." - Peter Cook, Already Dead Tapes & Records
